Chronic Pain – New drug for millions of pain patients receives approval

Chronic Pain, More than ten million pain patients in Germany can have hope: The Munich-based biopharmaceutical company Vertanical has received approval from the drug regulatory authority for a new medication to treat chronic pain that also affects the nerves. The company announced this on Tuesday.

Unlike conventional medications, Exilby is not based on an opioid, but on medical cannabis. Two Phase 3 trials have demonstrated that Exilby not only provides significant pain relief for patients with neuropathic pain, lasting for more than a year, but in some cases, its effectiveness was even better than that of opioids. At the same time, the medication has significantly fewer side effects and reduces the risk of addiction.
